Plus, a few more goodies in today's newsletter

Things are starting to get a little tense for streaming vampire Jade Mourning. His friend with benefits, Daphne, who he is discovering is much more than that from an emotional standpoint, is visiting him at his mansion in Buckhead after several local murders. Among the recent victims: the wildly popular streamer and Daphne's good friend, Ice Game Z.

Mourning's streamer community in Atlanta is gripped in fear. It doesn't help that the Atlanta Police Department seems to consider Mourning a person of interest in the crimes.

Oh. One more thing. The events of today's chapter will change the relationship between Daphne and Jade forever.

It's the last free chapter in this series. I hope you enjoy it. If you do, play with the button below. It does magical things!

To access all six chapters, just go here or to the Psalm of Vampires menu on the Ruminato website.

Speaking of magic...

It's time for this month's promos from other independent authors.

Twenty Sci-Fi Writers Fix the Planet

Twenty ways to fix the planet.

Climate change is no longer a vague future threat. Forests are burning, currents are shifting, and massive storms dump staggering amounts of water in less than 24 hours. Sometimes it’s hard to look ahead and see a hopeful future.

We asked sci-fi writers to send us stories about ways to save the world from climate change. From the myriad of stories we received, we chose the twenty most amazing (and hopefully prescient) tales.

Dive in and find out how we might mitigate climate change via solar mirrors, carbon capture, genetic manipulation, and acts of change both large and small.

The future’s not going to fix itself.

What if “Air Bud” had a job like “Indiana Jones“?

Join Opie the incorruptible for this short but poignant tail of loyalty, responsibility, and adventure.

Opie works a boring government job so he can send money back home on Mars to his drug-addicted parents (who don’t even remember their son is a cybernetic human-dog hybrid now). He’s got a chip-slot in his tongue that allows him to speak any language that can be loaded onto silicon, and a sense of morality more true than any compass — making him the perfect errand boy for people like Section Chief Ferra Cain, head of the Human Authority Tactical Intelligence.

When Cain summons Opie to the backwater planet of Shihar to act as guide for an expedition headed up by the native Shihari people, it seems like a pretty standard mission: don’t let the Shihari get greedy. Don’t let the mission go off the rails. DON’T let anyone take the payload.

But as the mission wears on, it’s the very things that made Opie the perfect spy that plant the seeds of doubt in his mind. As he ponders the right path, Opie will make choices that change the course of the mission — and his life.
